Meth Myths

This past week, I attended the North Dallas EAPA Conference, where I had the opportunity to hear an excellent talk on the facts and figures behind methamphetamine. While meth commands much greater fear than other street drugs, it turns out that its current position as number one nightmare drug is undeserved. Here are some of those myths debunked:

--Meth is the most addictive drug. Ever.
Meth is acutally no more addictive than other amphetamines and opiates.

--Once you are addicted, it is impossible to quit.
Meth users have the same recovery rate as other drug users.

--It takes six to twelve months to detox from meth.
Meth metabolizes in just two days, so the chemical does not stay in the body long.
