"Biological Psychiatry vs. Psychotherapy: Which One Works?”

Synopsis:

There are disadvantages and benefits to both biological psychiatry and psychotherapy in the treatment of depression. Psychotherapeutic techniques in particular possess a great many advantages such as non-medical treatment, no side effects of medication, shorter length of treatment, and the opportunity to explore cause and effect of stressors causing depression. During his presentation, Dennis Cavenah, LPC/LMFT led participants in an exploration of the etiology of depression, biological treatments, preferred counseling treatments, and the importance of the therapeutic relationship.

Dennis Cavenah, LPC, LMFT, CEAP, SAP, has been a therapist for over thirty years. Currently he is in private practice at Riverside Counseling, Tulsa, OK. He is a proud father of three children and is presently completing a doctorate in Christian counseling.
