Synopsis:

Cognitive therapy for psychosis arose from treatment methods for anxiety and depression. CT is based on the idea that psychotic symptoms are associated with information processing biases. Accordingly, CT is most effective in the treatment of persistent, residual psychotic symptoms. It is estimated that 25-60% of individuals with psychosis have symptoms following medication treatment. Speaker Profile



Dennis Combs, Ph.D

Dennis R. Combs Ph.D. obtained his doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor for the Department of Psychology at the University of Tulsa and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Dr. Combs has written various papers on psychiatric disorders and has conducted numerous lectures and workshops. He currently is Clinical Supervisor for Tulsa Center for Behavioral Health and Oklahoma Forensic Center. He is also a Faculty Consultant for Red Rock PACT program. Dr. Combs is a member of the Association for Advancement of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, National Academy of Neuropsychology, American Psychological Association, Oklahoma Psychological Society, Schizophrenia and Other Serious Mental Disorders Special Interest Group AABT, APA Division 40 Clinical Neuropsychology and the Oklahoma Psychological Association. Dr. Combs was awarded the Distinguished Early Career Award in 2005.
