Brookhaven's Seminar Snapshots February 3rd 2010 "Failure to Launch" Presented by William Berman, Ph.D. Our society has created a culture that enables older adolescents and young adults to remain sheltered and dependent upon their families. When this design is functional, it produces a generation of highly educated, responsible, and productive adults; however, when it is dysfunctional, the result is a "failure to launch." Titled after Tom Astle's humorous 2006 release, this seminar took a fun look at the factors that differentiate between the two diametrically opposite outcomes and explored the role that family therapy can play in facilitating a "successful launch."
