Anxiety Management Treatment Groups

Anxiety and stress are similar but different. Stress is a part of your everyday life. You cannot avoid it, no matter how hard you try. It can come your way after any circumstance, event, physical / emotional state, or thought that triggers a certain set of responses in your body and mind. Stress simply means any effect of symptom you feel when your body or mind responds to what you perceive as a threat.

Your automatic reaction to something you believe is threatening is known as the fight-or-flight response; because it helps you fight with or run from your enemy or from what you perceive to be your enemy. When you are reacting in this type of stress-response mode, your heat rate speeds up, your muscles tense, your skin sweats, and your mouth gets dry. Some people have no problems managing this natural response to danger. Others need help. If you don’t learn to manage it, it will become, in and of itself, a threat to your health and wellness.

Anxiety, conversely, is a feeling of fear or apprehension. Sometimes anxiety can cluster around a set of fearful thoughts called worry. Worry can center on things such as your health, safety, finances, appearance, or relationships. You may worry about several or all of these issues. Worry is a chronic type of anxiety that can trigger physical problems, illnesses, and emotional problems, such as depression and anxiety disorders.
