A professor at the University of Texas has been awarded “the largest prize in psychiatry” for her revolutionary work in the treatment of pediatric mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder and depression.

Dr. Karen Wagner works at the medical branch of UT in Galveston and sought to end “evidence-based prescribing” for children with mood disorders. Previously, physicians could only prescribe treatment based on how they would treat adults. Dr. Wagner’s research allows physicians to work from a place of knowledge and understanding.
