In his presentation, Dr. Burrows offered guidelines for direct care personnel dealing with agitated or aggressive patients. Benefits of behavioral management and behavioral modification were discussed and the benefits of one over the other in acute care settings. Participants examined the effects of thier own attitudes on patient behaviors and ways they can make themselves more effective in working with patients. Finally, Dr. Burrow’s expounded upon two case studies and ways to put a good behavioral philosophy into practice as part of effective patient care.
